Why do we find such joy in seeing him in everyone’s photos? Well, I think part of it is the fact that we are all experiencing our first days waking up without a quiet sense of doom, anxiously dreading what new crazy crap happened while we slept. But I think it’s far more than that. It’s that Bernie really is the Every Man we can all relate to in some way. That’s why he fits in so well in all of those photos, I mean he didn’t really look that out of place in any of them.

He is us. We’ve all worn mittens someone made for us, haven’t we? We’ve all worn a parka to a formal event (if we’re lucky enough to live somewhere with surprize seasonal changes). We’ve all sat in the cold and thought, ‘This is all very fine, but can we please just get to work fixing this mess before the hoards come back?’ I said hoards, get your mind out of the gutter! I like the sparseness of this event, mine would have been similar, with the folding chairs and no big hoopla, even without the threat of insurrectionists.
